Kitchen helper: Rice cooker

Cuisinart 400
If you are a rice lover, then you would love a rice cooker:

  • Easier than in the stove top
  • Suitable for many types of rice, pulses, couscous or even porridge
  • Keeps the rice warm for a few hours
  • You can also steam vegetables, meat, fish and poultry in the steamer basket
  • You can prepare a soup without a timer
  • A nonstick pot with easy and quick cleanup

But the glass lids cook rice unevenly, cool too quickly and spit water through the hole in the lid. Also more difficult to wash by hand. In my experience this glass lid is very low quality and mine got quickly broken.

Rice
Carefully wash the rice several times in water and drain.
Measure 50g of rice per person for an accompaniment and 100g of rice for a main course. Measure the amount of rice with the glass measuring cup and poor into the pot. Add water to the corresponding mark (1 cup = level 4 of water). Push ON button and cook. When cooking has finished, the rice cooker will detect the total water absorbed and automatically switches to "warm". It is possible to activate the warm to reheat food.

Pulses
Pulses must soak in water for 6 to 8 hours before cooking to rehydrate. Cooking takes different times depending on the pulse and weight. It is better to cook them without the rice cooker lid on to prevent boiling over resulting from the scum produced during cooking.
